Your Try Dive Day in Koh Tao: A Step-by-Step Guide

To give you a clear idea of how this incredible experience will unfold, here’s the plan for the day. This is your very first time breathing underwater, and our main goal is to make you feel comfortable and safe. You’ll be guided by your instructor every moment, so your only job is to relax and enjoy the amazing feeling of weightlessness!

We start around 10:30 AM at our dive school. You’ll meet your instructor, we’ll go over the paperwork together, and in a relaxed and simple way, we’ll explain the basics of the equipment, safety, and how we’ll communicate underwater. Everything is kept clear and stress-free! Afterwards, a well-deserved break to recharge with a tasty lunch before the action begins.

Around 12:00 PM, it’s time for the action to begin! With our gear ready, we’ll board our boat for a short and scenic ride to one of Koh Tao’s best beaches. There, right by the shore in calm, shallow water, you’ll practice the basic skills with your instructor to build your confidence and comfort. You’ll see how easy it is to get the hang of it! Once you’re ready and smiling from ear to ear, it’s time to explore! We’ll do one (or two, if you’re up for it!) guided dives on a reef full of color and amazing marine life. An experience you won’t forget!

Koh Tao Discover Scuba Diving: Your Questions Answered

🤔 Do I need any diving experience?

Absolutely not! Our Discover Scuba Diving experience is designed specifically for complete beginners. Our expert instructors will teach you everything you need to dive safely and have an amazing time.

🏊 Do I need to know how to swim?

You don’t need to be an Olympic swimmer, but you should be comfortable in the water and have basic swimming skills (like being able to float or tread water). Being relaxed in the water is all you need!

🌊 What if my friends don’t want to dive?

No problem at all! They’re welcome to join the boat trip and enjoy some fantastic snorkeling at the same beautiful reef while you dive. Our boat has plenty of space for everyone!

❤️ Are there any medical restrictions?

Yes, for your safety, all participants must complete a brief medical questionnaire. Please review the SSI Medical Statement here beforehand. If you have any “yes” answers, it’s best to consult a doctor before your dive.

🎂 What is the minimum age?

The minimum age to participate in the Discover Scuba Diving program at 12 meters is 10 years old. But with 8 years old you can go until 5 meters also

🛡️ Is Discover Scuba Diving safe?

Absolutely. Your safety is our number one priority. You’ll be under the direct, constant supervision of a certified SSI Professional in a very small group (max 2 students). We adhere to strict international safety standards, and our equipment is meticulously maintained.

⏱️ How long does the dive last?

Each dive typically lasts 45 to 60 minutes. This can vary slightly based on your breathing rate (don’t worry, we’ll teach you!) and how comfortable you are while exploring.

⏰ What time do we get back?

We’re usually back at the dive school between 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM. The exact time can vary slightly depending on the day’s pace and sea conditions, but you’ll have plenty of time to relax and catch a beautiful Koh Tao sunset!

📜 Do I get a certification after my try dive?

The Try Dive is an incredible experience program, not a certification course. However, you will get a digital recognition card from SSI! If you get hooked and want to become a certified diver, check out our SSI Open Water Diver course!

➡️ Is this required before the Open Water course?

Not at all! If you’re ready to become a certified diver, you can jump straight into theOpen Water Diver course. The Try Dive is simply a fantastic option if you’re short on time or just want to test the waters first.

🎓 Can I continue to the Open Water course after this?

Yes, and it’s a great idea! Your Try Dive experience is the perfect foundation, as it covers skills very similar to Day 1 of the Open Water course. 🎒What should I bring?

Just your swimsuit, a towel, and some reef-safe sunscreen to protect our beautiful corals 😉. We provide absolutely everything else: a full set of scuba gear, water and snacks on the boat, and an unforgettable adventure!

It’s completely normal to feel a bit nervous! Our instructors are experts at guiding beginners and are incredibly patient. 🐠 Will we see a lot of marine life?

Koh Tao is world-famous for its vibrant marine life! While we can’t guarantee specific sightings (nature is wild, after all!), the sites we choose for our Try Dives are teeming with colourful tropical fish and beautiful corals.
